Issue 52 : Writing a Great Review for Extra Revenue!

Sunday, April 27th, 2008
So you want to start writing reviews on your web page? If you don’t know where to start then keep reading because I am going to give you all the basic information you will need in order to find pages/products to review, how to write great review articles on them and how to make some money by doing that!

There are basically two types of reviews that you can generate revenue from and those are Paid Reviews and Affiliate Reviews. They are both excellent ways to boost your website’s current earnings and they aren’t too difficult to do.

I will write down the simple process and break down certain points.  First let us look at writing a good review for affiliate purposes:

  1. Choosing a Product/Services/Affiliate Program
The first step to writing any review is to find something that you can review. This should have something to do with the web page that you will post the review on. Any irrelevant reviews on your page will not be great for your web page because you will be offering your viewers something that they might not care about. Always stick to products/services within your niche or domain. For example if you have a web development page then you can write reviews on internet hosting packages, domain registration services, etc. Choose a suitable affiliate program that you think can make you healthy monthly commissions. If you aren’t sure about which will make the most revenue, try to check out what kind of products/services your competitors are reviewing.
  2. Researching
Don’t ever post up a review about a product that you know nothing about. Personal experience by using a product or service is the best way to find out how it works so that you can review it. Finding out the advantages and disadvantages is necessary to review things properly. If you want to review a product or service but do not want to invest in buying the product yourself then you can do two things. The first would be to research online as much as you can about the product or service so that you know enough to provide a trustworthy review, or you can contact the affiliate program of the product or service and ask them for a sample so that you can review their product on your web page. If you choose to do this then be sure to pitch your ideas and make sure that they are aware of what they will be getting out of this deal.
  3. Writing an Honest Review
After you have researched a product well enough.. you can start writing. Never lie in a review. You do not want to falsely represent any products or services because it can harm your internet reputation. You want to be honest with whatever you write and if there is something that a potential client should know about a product then tell them. It is better to have all the facts layed out with potential clients not making a purchase then it is to have not been up front with potential clients and tarnishing your image.
  4. Pros and Cons
Listing the Pros and Cons of a product or service can be done easily and can give a potential buyer a good idea of how the product stacks up against other similar products. To increase the effectiveness of the review you will probably want to list more Pros than Cons. Having 1 or 2 Cons side by side with 4 or 5 Pros can already give the surfer what he/she needs to know and they might not even finish reading the review and directly make a purchase.
  5. Personal Opinion
Because it will be displayed on your web site you will want to include your personal opinion of any given product or service. This is because you will get questions from surfers about what you think anyways. Why not put it there as an additional statement to increase effectiveness?
  6. Things to take into consideration
Always think of your affiliate reviews as a sales pitch. Making a sales commission is the reason you have the review on your page, right? So you have to sell the product or service and make it look like a good deal. Don’t exaggerate too much and never lie to potential clients, remember that it could end up hurting your reputation.
  7. Providing Alternatives
In case the surfer decides not to take your advice and would like to check out some of the other available options then you should always provide affiliate links to a few alternatives. This is a wise option in most cases where there are a lot of similar products, especially those with customer loyalty.

Now let’s look at how you can write a perfect Paid Review that will be beneficial to both you and the website you are reviewing:

  1. Where to look for Paid Review Opportunities
One of the best places to look for website review opportunities is web development forums because there is always someone who will want to increase their website traffic and is looking for different ways to do so. There is also a bunch of great sites that provide a service to connect Publishers and Advertisers. You can sign up to such a site and webmasters can either buy reviews from you or bid on them!
  2. Choosing which Sites to Review
One of the things that is great about reviewing on your site is that you can choose which site you would like to review or not. You will want to stay away from reviewing a site that is almost exactly like yours and is in competition with you. The reason is very simple. If that website happens to have more quality content and attracts more surfers then it could possibly end up stealing the traffic that you have been working hard to get.. You want to provide the site traffic without losing it!
  3. Making Arrangements with the Webmaster
This is the point where you will negotiate a price and make sure that both parties get what they want. You can write up a contract to make sure that everything that you both agreed to is done. Once you decide on a fair price to do a quality review you can start working on it.
  4. Research the Website Well
Researching the site is an important thing to do because it will show the webmaster that you have actually done your homework and can provide a quality review! It can also be considered another valuable piece of good content that has been added to your website! Knowing as much as you can about the website is the best way to be able to produce a great honest review that will be appreciated and noticed.
  5. Providing Honest Feedback
Before you post the review on your page you will want to show the webmaster who is paying you to write a review what you have written just to be fair that something that he/she doesn’t want to be posted is not displayed. This way the webmaster can verify your work before it is seen by everyone online! Remember that within your review you should be honest and point out what you think are the best things and some things that can be improved. There is always room for improvement!
  6. Things to Remember
If a webmaster is willing to pay you to post a review on your site it is because they believe that it can increase their traffic through your page. Therefore, you must be able to produce results and drive traffic to them. The hard part is to make sure that having that review on your page doesn’t steal traffic from you. You don’t want to decrease your traffic so always use preventative measures to keep your traffic!

Now that you have what it takes to write some attention grabbing reviews, you can start reviewing for moderate prices to start and build up your websites reputation to make a solid stream of income from reviews!
