Issue 37 : Submitting your page to Free Directories!
One of the most important things to do to get quality traffic to your website is to build backlinks to your page. This is critical when it comes to Search Engine Optimization! A general rule is that the more backlinks you have, the better…. however, you could still generate high traffic from better quality backlinks! One thousand PR0 backlinks won’t do you much good compared to 4 or 5 PR7 backlink, but for the most part you shouldn’t worry about it affecting your rankings negatively.
One of the best way to build quality backlinks is to manually submit your website to be included in free directories. This can greatly improve your ranking in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Page) and you could get some traffic referred from those directories! The main drawback about directories is that it is very time consuming and tedious to submit your website to directories and even once you submit your url it could take months before your website is listed. Once it is listed you should see a positive change in your rankings and traffic should be boosted. The more directories you submit to: the better, but you will want to prioritize which ones you go to first! Remember that PR is extremely important when building backlinks to your web page.

If you only have one website and time is on your side, then just submit them by yourself. Make sure that you indicated the proper categories and page description to ensure that you can maximize your traffic potential!

A good place to get a list of free & paid directories, which you can sort by PageRank is www.directorycritic.com. I try to stay away from the paid directories, but submit to as many as you can, and your search engine rankings should increase.
