Issue 50 : Manage your Time!
A lot of business-minded individuals will tell you that ‘Time = Money‘ and they are right because for every second of the day that you waste… you will lose the opportunity to increase business revenue! Obviously no one wants to work 24/7 building links to their website or writing new content especially when they quit their 9 to 5 job to make a living at home… but if you can learn to manage your time wisely then you will notice that you can get a lot of work done and still have a lot of time to spend with your family, watch television or whatever else you would like to do!
One of the reasons that I began doing online marketing and left my old job is because I really didn’t like working on a fixed schedule… but while working on my own business projects at home I realized very quickly that entrepreneurial work can be almost as much of a routine as an office shift! After a few months of online work I regularly checked my e-mail, checked my website statistics, wrote new content, and posted on forums almost at the same time every day and whenever I would stray from those precise times I would feel as if I didn’t get anything accomplished!
- Sticking to your Schedule!
So that brings us to the first key to Time Management. Following your specific work schedule to do all your daily tasks will clear up your days to allow time for other important things. I know that a lot of people out there are passionate about certain things and sometimes it is even more important to them then working to make money. Obviously you will have times when you will want to take a break from work and you are welcome to do so. That is one of the greatest things about working for yourself at home.. you can work when you want and won’t have to answer to anyone but yourself! - Setting Deadlines.
Sometimes you have specific projects running that you are uncertain about. You don’t know how long it will be running and this keeps you from other important business related work. To avoid losing focus and to keep making money you will need to set deadlines for your projects so you know if things are going according to plan and so you know if there are certain aspects you should look to improve! Getting one project out of the way to start another one won’t likely generate more profit in a long term scenario… so if possible, you can hire someone to manage specific projects so you have more time to take care of business in the bigger picture. - Organization.
You will be amazed at how much time you can save if you have a clear plan of what you are going to do each day. Before the day is over, write a list of things that you need to do the next day… The average person wastes almost an hour or more of combined time throughout the day because they aren’t sure of what they were going to do or what they are supposed to be doing! If you have a list of those things in front of you then you don’t need to spend time wasting time! You can just get to it and then spend the time you would have wasted on whatever your heart desires! - No slacking off.
You don’t have a boss to tell you what to do and when so that means that you are likely to just put everything off until the last minute, but trust me… this will not be the best decision! While it may seem like a great idea at the time, you will find yourself not getting anything done. For example: In a normal business week you could write a good article every day and that is relatively easy work, but if you are taking it easy on yourself and having fun..writing an article or two within the whole week then already you are not being as productive as you can! Be hard on yourself, but be flexible!
Time Management can ultimately manage you a six figure income and that is when you will start thanking me for writing this. I used to be lazy about getting my work done but every since I started managing my time well I have had better results and ironically enough; more free time
In the next issue of the ‘ONE YEAR MILLIONAIRE‘ I will talking about Reviewing Products/Services on your blog and how you can make some money by doing it!
