Issue 78 : Blogging Contests?!?
The reason that a lot of Bloggers do this kind of thing is because it attracts a lot of attention from current readers who will then spread it to third party viewers. These third party viewers may then turn into a regular reader of the blog itself! The lengths that Bloggers will go to in order to attract new readers is scary! I am still waiting for the day when a brand new car is put up in a contest and you have to do is write a review about the site holding the contest to win! Wouldn’t that be great?
Driving Traffic to your website is essential; so I guess there is no reason to take extra steps to make sure that the buzz gets out there! There is nothing wrong with giving out cash prizes (small or large) to increase activity on your website if you think that you will be able to profit from it in some way. By Holding a Contest you are giving your readers another reason to visit your site again and again. You also give them reasons to spread the word about your site and bring in new readers!
If you are going to set up a contest in order to Link Bait or promote your website make sure that you are providing big prizes that people will find useful! If your prize is 2 EntreCard credits then it isn’t much of a prize… but if you offer 1000 EntreCard credits then at least it has some value to it!
One great thing you could do by running a contest on your Blog is increase your RSS Subscribers! You can write down as a stipulation of the contest that they must be an RSS Email Subscriber to be able to win a prize. This will boost your numbers right away and you will see the difference immediately!

Yes, contests are a way to make the blog acquire traffic and popularity. However, to make the contest successful, a great deal of campaign is also needed. Today, there are various contests and as you said, the prizes just getting better. The only bad thing about some are the way how they are held and how the winners are chosen. I just think that others are doing the winner drawing questionably and if indeed the prizes exist/. Needless to say, Entrecard prizes surely exist. I even pledged as a sponsor in an upcoming contest when one of our fellow EC members campaigned for EC credits.
BTW, I saw your article from LiveWireNews. May I ask your opinion about this site? I have an article about this in my blog and I do hope I hear some opinion from fellow members at this site. I would highly appreciate it.

The reason I join contest is actually participation. I never expect to win because i have no luck on these stuffs. I join because I want that others, when I also hold contests, will feel the same thing as I feel.. will join it back. But since there are thousands of contests around, the validity is not that strong. We cannot afford auditors though.
